100 voices - the ADHD careers survey

Hi fellow ADDers.

A huge thanks to the 100 ADHDers who took time to complete an anonymous survey and share their thoughts and advice on ADHD and careers. Over the coming weeks I will share the results starting with a broad look at the demographics.

Who are our 100 voices?

What gender are our voices? Our voices are predominantly female –over 60% of respondents.

What age are our voices? While our respondents come from a range of ages, over 60% are between 25 and 44 years of age.

When were our voices diagnosed? As many of our voices were diagnosed after their 35th birthday as before.

In what careers had our voices found success? There were a few consistent areas of work in which our voices had their best jobs:

  • Caring professions

  • Teaching

  • Trades & construction

  • Sales & consulting

  • Hospitality

  • Projects & management

  • Technology roles

I’ve reviewed the open text responses to the ‘best job’ question and grouped into the career areas above. For example, a number of the respondents who mentioned Project Management also mentioned Management roles hence I combined these in the areas above.

My next post will start to give more detail on the specific findings and advice from our voices.
